After reading all the hype about Aldi before Christmas, Mrs BT and I ventured in there.
We spoke to a customer who was denuding the shelves of their supply of filet steak. Curiously we asked him about its quality, he said he'd never tasted better for the price and let us have two pieces put of his trolly. We also bought two pieces of sirloin.
Well, the filet was as good as the other customer had said. Tonight we enjoyed the sirloin. I think they are the best steaks I've ever had from a supermarket.
Total cost of each meal, with trimmings, probably under £6, we would have happily paid around £20 in a restaurant for the same, probably considerably more in London.
Sis and I went to Lidl before christmas and came away with chocolate, champagne, frozen crab and lobster, gingerbread stollen and excellent frozen king prawns. I would beat up Aldi too but its too far away.
i shop at Aldi every week. i love the store. whether on a tight budget or not its great value. no point being snobby about shops like aldi and lidl they may not have the variety of the larger supermarkets but i nearly always get what i want/need there. if not i go to local market. Filled a large trolley with food for christmas and it was only £50 i was amazed tbh.
So true, Lozzer...I can now get most of what I want from Aldi. I started going there years ago because they don't have muzac.....a few bits now from my farm shop and I can't remember when I last had to to go into a large supermarket.
Strange how we perceive different things. I prefer Aldi to Lidl, and Sainsbury to Tesco.
I suppose the same happens with a lot of products, never been keen on Ford cars, prefer M & S to BHS, and I suppose I could go on. Just one of those things!
