I think I remember reading that the Grand Banks off the coast of Canada were once heaving with fish but over-fishing has nearly cleared them out.

Trials of farming cod and haddock have been successful. It's already being done commercially in some countries.

No foodstuff remains sustainable if the species that prey on it can not control its population growth. But there are lots of fish species about so I suspect the food supply problem will come to a head before they all run out. Just so long as we don't run out of batter and fat for frying.
