It's my son's birthday next week and he's asked me to make a Black Forest Gateau (God knows where he got the idea from), anyway do you think the tins of cherry pie filling would suffice as a filling for it?

However it might not be a good idea to simply use them, in place of the regular ingredients, in other recipes. For example, this recipe specifically states "This cake should not be overly sweet which is why you should never use cherry pie filling in place of the cherries in this recipe":
