Doctor said hardly any sugar in wine and when you look on the bottle it's true, so why does it put on weight?

There's calories in wine, lots of them. Its not just sugar which has calories.

It's high in calories and calories don't just come from sugar.
I suppose it is how much you drink. I don't think it actually puts on weight but I do believe it stops you from losing weight. So if you are good and careful all week then have a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend you won't actually lose. Leave the wine and you will. Why? I don't know but it's what I have found.

the other thing that any alcohol can do is increase appetite by dropping blood sugar levels. Its so effective that it is suggested as a strategy for people who need to gain weight, eg cancer sufferers.
There is actually a fat-burning ingredient in wine and repeated studies have concluded time and time again that wine drinkers are slimmer overall than liquor drinkers.

Calories should be disregarded. Wine actually only has 1\4 top sugar in a large glass!

I drink plenty of wine and I don't gain weight.
