Baking parchment has a layer of silicon which does not melt and food does not stick to it. Greaseproof doesn't and hot food will stick to it.
baking parchment is non stick, Greaseproof paper isn't non stick and still needs oiling or greasing to stop the baking sticking.
Parchment is non-stick and greaseproof isn't.
You can iron the creases and folds out of historical papers using parchment paper: using greaseproof would be quite messy.
