How different are they from chicken eggs?

Bigger, and stronger, richer flavour.
when they hatch, you get ducklings instead of chicks. (sorry)
The shells are more porous so they do not last as long.  This is why they do not sell them in most shops - hen eggs have a much longer shelf life.
When you hit 'em with your spoon, they quack !
Taste wise, duck eggs are quite bland compare to chicken eggs and chicken egg yoke have more aroma.
