I've used too much water and ending up with a vegetable rice pudding as I chopped some spring onions and tomatoes and threw them in the pot.

How can I get rid of the excess water and restore the rice to it's original single grain consistency and while we're at it how do you make the perfect rice? When I use too little water it burns and when I use too much it becomes rice pudding.

What's the answer?

Thanks in advance. :)

2 measures of water to 1 measure of rice, bring to boil, reduce heat to low, cover the pan & leave it for approx 10 minutes.

I can't help with the recovery of your "veggie rice pudding", I'm sorry.
Put it through a sieve - just a thought
Once it is overcooked there isn't much you can do.

You need to use a colander or large sieve to drain the water when it is just right.

If you like you can follow this up by rinsing the cooked rice with boiling water.
Place your soggy rice in a muslin (or similar) lined sieve then when as dry as possible, fry it off in a drop of oil
Can't you just strain it through a sieve or colander and rinse it with a kettle of boiling water?
I have a lidded plastic bucket type thing specifically for doing rice in the microwave, it always comes out absolutely perfect, I'd never go back to boiling it. And I use Tilda rice, a bit more expensive but I think it's worth it.
Doh, all those answers weren't there when I last looked...

Dou you think I could put it in the oven to dry it or when I'm serving it do you think the microwave will dry it out a bit?
lol probs a bit too late now but I was going to suggest what you said; spread it out thinly on a baking tray and dry it out in the oven on a low temp.
No, you have to chuck it out and start again.
