Young laphroaigs, similar to Springbanks and other young Campbelltown whiskies can taste like a dose of TCP they are very acquired.... 8yo Ardbeg is great for cleaning cuts...!! Grouse is a gutrot blend no real taste to it, terrible finish to it but it seems popular. I suspect Kylesmum is looking for a softer sweeter, lees smoky whisky, if so look at speysides, Macallan is a good example, Balvennie something like that or the Highland Malts, Glenmorangie, Dalwhinnie Tomatin are all good examples. Avoid any islands if you are not a fan of smokey whiskies, Lagavuilin is a belter if you do though, Talisker, Jura, the Bruichladdichs and bunahabain.. the 12yo is great the 25 is simply sublime....
