Can't Find Maple Peas
19 Answers
Old persian recipe I want to cook looks sumptuous, but it requires Maple Peas. I have scoured most of the major supermarkets and the internet, but all I can come up with is something to do with angling bait. Obviously I want things suitable for human consumption, not fish-food. Any idea where I can get them, or alternatively, do they have a different name in this country ?

"The availability of black peas is not steady. They are typically available from the end of October and throughout November."

might be worth asking some of the stall holders in Preston or Bury if they'd supply?

I think we should explain to those who have missed out on the experience that they're not peas that have gone bad as some friends from Cheshire once seemed to think.
Atalanta, have you tried health food/wholefood shops? I would have thought they were more likely to sell them than the major supermarkets.

I did indeed search the big stores' on-line lists. For maple peas, all the major supermarkets gave me maple syrup. When I realised they were the same as Carlin peas, they offered me Carling beer. Holland and Barrett offered me Kaolin.
We have few local health food shops, and those we do have don't seem to have websites, so I may be reduced to online purchase - waste of postage for such a small quantity.
