Canned chicken used to be a popular thing in christmas hampers. I agree it looks quite strange but the chicken (and the jelly surrounding it) was delicious. I am surprised you haven't seen canned chicken before RATTER I thought that you and I were around the same age.

I agree Retrochic, if he's going to sit there and pour it out of the tin and look disgusted, that's going to "sell" the chicken as something disgusting. I also suspect that the tim has been stored in a warm place or heated first as I remember the chicken coming out sealed in a cylinder of the jelly and fat which was set solid.

woofgan that's exactly what I thought too,he will have had the can in warm water. We've had canned chicken in the larder in Canada as a store cupboard emergency and I vaguely remember it being solid, the jelly was set and it tasted really nice.
