Try makilng your own, ethandron. 8oz sloes look around and find your own,4oz sugar and a litre of gin, prick the sloes a couple of times with a pin and put the together with the gin and sugar in a sealable jar,we use kilner jars.Give it a shake every day till all the sugar is disolved and leave it for a couple of months to mature. Then drain off the fruit, bottle annd drink at your liesure. The nice thing is after a while you learn to vary the ingrediants to suit your own taste
Well tony, it's a good job I also bought a bottle of ordinary gin too, to have with the tonic and lime ;)
Of course OG, moderation in everything....or not!
I find Tanquaray very harsh, it's not a gin I would even choose DT. I do like Bombay saphire though, and Blackwoods. I'm yet to find a favourite.
Paddy, my dad used to make it just like that, we were allowed the tiniest glass of it you could ever imagine, just the thought of it takes me back..... :)
I have made sloe gin until this year (move intervened) it's delicious, but lethal in quantity. The recipe was given to me by a chap who referred to it as 'fast gin' (he was talking about the results on ladies!). I assume that sloe vodka is similar, but vodka doesn't have the taste of gin - perhaps that gives a different drink entirely. :)
We make "liquors" from vodka with lots of different fruits ,my favourite is gooseberry but we also make one from the new growth tips of the spruce ,at the end of the branches .It is very like lemoncello when young but much more resinous later on if it survives
