my freezer has filled up this last few weeks with ice crusted and formed all around the edges , how do i defrost this ?
do i leave door open for few hours or scrape the ice off ( its solid )
also settings for fridge , settings are from 1-5. 1 meaning minimum freeze 5 meaning maximum freeze ? does fride setting dictate freezer settings also ?
sorry to ask but its a landlords fridge so i have no manual.
Switch it off. Take all out of the freezer (If you can bag it with freezer blocks so much the better.) Put a bowl of hot water in there to warm the interior up, and leave the door open. Go back and check every now and again to see if ice has fallen off and removable. Try not to be so eager that you start digging around and puncture a pipe ! Wipe down, remove ice, as it become necessary. Refill and switch back on again once done.
I understand one can get sprays to help but I've not found the need to invest in one yet.
Yes the larger the number the colder it gets. There may be a separate fast freeze button for first freezing things but you probably won't need it for this.
if the freezer has drawers leave then in place as it will help to catch the ice as it falls off, leave the door open when you have emptied the food out, if you are nearby you should hear it when chunks fall off so you can quickly empty each drawer and put it back in again, also put some newspaper down on the floor over the edge of the freezer to catch any dripping water and keep checking to make sure you don,t get any puddles
Put in as many boiling hot bowls of water as you can fit. CLOSE the door as that will keep the heat inside. It really doesn't take long, especially if you check every 15 minutes and remove lumps of ice that have fallen off.
