We already have one of these filter/espresso combi-coffee maker thingies but I find this too fiddly, especially in the morning when I'm in a rush.

So I'm considering buying one of these coffee pod makers and I want to know if they're any good, and which brand is the best buy? There's the Philips/Douwe Egberts Senseo or the Kenco Tassimo.

i had one of these - The Douwe Egberts professional, and to be honest i didn't think the coffee was much better than instant so took it back. although i now spend too much money on buying REAL coffee from shops!

Surely nothing is too fiddly for a really good espresso? Personally I wouldn't give those overpriced pod jobbies houseroom; all you need is a reasonable espresso-maker (at least 15 bar pressure; you don't have to spend a fortune - Aldi's coffee-makers are rebadged "big names" that sell for 4 times the price on the HIgh Street) and a tin of Illy dark roast espresso......heaven......

Since I'm quite happy with my stove-top espresso maker, which is knocking on for about 15 years old, I ask merely out of curiosity; are the two systems (Tassimo / Senseo) totally different and mutually incompatible?

Is it a bit like saying "hmmm, shall I buy the Betamax or VHS video recorder?" back in 1980, in that one is going to be obsolete it a short while?

*in a short while*
