How do you tell when a Honeydew Melon is ripe. Have had some that are green near the outer skin when cut - not much taste and others which are the same colour all through, do not last very long.

Any helpful suggestions much appreciated

It should "give" at the stalk end when pressed with thumbs....and it should smell noticeably of melon!

Thank you both will give all the Tesco melons a good try
You have to watch out though. At the market I asked the stallholder if I could use my thumbs to press her melons at the stalk end, and she chased me off with a cucumber !
I find that melons at this time of year are pretty tasteless however ripe they are.
It should give when you press the pointy ends. However, i tend not to buy any melons in the winter - they tend (certainly the ones which I have chosen) to be pretty tasteless. So leave them until the summer when they are much sweeter and juicier.
