Can I Fry Onions In A Saucepan?

I am not what you would call a cook so this question may seem a little odd.

I have set fire to my frying pan (the handle melted) and don't have one just now. Can I fry in a pot? It is just onions for my lunch. I don't fry much.

Can I cook them in the oven so that they turn out like fried onions, if so how do I do this.

I was going to microwave them but I want them crispy and sort-of burnt.

As long as you only put a thinnish layer of onion in the saucepan they will fry fine.

You can fry them in a bucket as long as you have the fat in the bottom and your name is not Dear liza. :-)

yes but as HC says in a thinnish layer if you have a lot of them they'll start to stew

to do them in the oven, i'd slice, toss in oil, spread out on a baking tray and bung them in the oven

all of a sudden I have an inkling for fried onions ! yum yum especially if in a mushroom mix on toast !

You can certainly roast them in an oven dish in the oven with some fat. Keep checking until they caramelise or crisp to your liking at a highish heat.I would quarter the onion (s).

fluffy..don't have the patience for that ..as soon as that smell wafts..it's frazzle time !!

Love onions, can't stand recipes that say chop or slice 1/2 an onion,always use at least one whole one.

I don't have the patience to stick them in the oven so I am going to nuke them first then stick in a pan.

Thanks to all off you - nuked and then pan-fried the onions and stuck my burgers on the Foreman grill. I managed to melt the pot handle a bit though.

Doing them in the oven....a VERY pricey way of getting some brown onions!
