We are told that oatmeal (porridge oats) are good for us and can help reduce cholestrol but does it make a difference if they are cooked or not?

I have a bowl of uncooked poridge, milk and sultanas most days for breakfast and was wondering if having it cooked would make a difference.

I do roughly the same.  I got the idea from the Carol Vorderman Detox book.  It seems to be a healthy option, but how healthy I don't know.

Well my Grandfather has been eating the same stuff for 70 odd years. Up here in Scotland, we call it Brose. You just pour in Boiling hot water to the oats, some salt and pepper and snap it up.

He says it puts a skin on your dirt.

He had a very hard life on a farm etc. Fills you up all day. As they say, The Belly supports the back...

I'm sure it's better than any pre packed, pre formed over sugared, over salted nonsense you buy in the shops.

I think it would be better if you soaked the oats overnight, and then add in the other bits and pieces the following morning.  When the weather is warmer, I do that and add in fresh fruit, or dried fruit soaked overnight, and a dollop of yoghurt.  You are also meant to soak nuts aswell, as you get more nutrients out of them that way.
