i've just bought some german rye from lidl. It's quite nice, but i had it with avocado and salad and it just didnt seem to go well. Is it meant to be eaten with sweet things? It's very malty. Does anyone know a good combination to put with this?

Pumpernickel or Schwartzbrot is best with savoury toppings.
Butter,cheeses..cold cuts...salami,liversausage etc.We always bring loads back when we go to Germany and freeze it. My favourite topping is cheese,sliced tomato and onion.The Lidl one is O.K. but I also find it a bit too heavy and chewy.It's specially made in Germany for Lidl but it's not as good a quality bread as you would get in a proper B�ckerei in Germany.
