Marrowfat Peas Versus Mushy Peas?

My OH,while going back (mentally) to his youth,expressed a desire for Mushy Peas.However,Mushy Peas and Marrowfat Peas (in tins at least) seem to be almost the same thing, (this is at Tesco, Sainsbury & Waitrose)
Any views on this?

you can buy tinned mushy peas
the brand is Harry Ramsden
I can,t stand them myself but am assured that they taste just like chip shop peas

I do quite like the cultural fusion of stirring a bit of tartare sauce into the mushy peas ...

I made my own mushy peas not so long ago. Although they tasted like the ones you get in tins/chip shops they looked horrible.

I want that lime green colour I'm used to :-)

We used to buy dried marrowfat peas, Whitworths I think, soak over night with a bicarb tablet, rinse very well and cook for about an hour. My mother used to put them into muslin tied up, all the shells didn't float to the top! As I can't get those now we get Batchelors quick dried, 2 hours soak in bocarb and cook in about 20 minutes, useful if you decide on a chippy tea in good time.

If it's colour you want my mother would put in a but of green food colouring, they were lurid.

That's what I was thinking. It's times like that when you realise food is very visual.

Mikey - Peas are my favourite veg and I love them in most forms. Mostly we eat garden peas but I love mushy peas as well.

Not so keen on tinned marrowfat.

Yesterday afternoon OH made me gag by eating cold mushy peas, piccalilli and coleslaw, all liberally sprinkled with Maggi.

Peas in the pod are only available for about six weeks in the year.They are hideously expensive but sell like hot cakes; it must be the nostalgia.
