Compered to what?
I think marmites are now an endangered species and it takes a lot of them to make one jar.

Jam, peanut butter?
I think you have to look at it relatively. You ue a tiny bit of marmite in comparison to jam or peanut butter. It is potent so you spread it thinly and it still tastes insane. One pot lasts a long time, hence the pots being small, and in comparison, expensive.
Have you tried "YEAST EXTRACT" from Lidls .....Very nice !! YUM YUMM much cheaper than marmite...I find that you only pay for the name !

As a Marmite nut, I have to disagree; it tastes best when spread thickly. But then I also eat it straight from the jar with my fingers. Yes I know, I am weird...

Try buying it from asda its quite cheap!
Personally, I think the question should just be "Why is Marmite?"......you either hate it or you you hate it......
