Am cooking supper for a good friend's birthday on Friday.

Menu so far is looking like Fillet steak au gratin with garlic and rosemary roasted spuds and pea and edamame bean salad followed by homemade apple crumble.

Any ideas for a quick, non faff, but impressive starter? There will only be the two of us and I cant spend all day cooking because I still have about 2000 emails to get through..........

scallops - no more than a minute.

if you can get it, hogs pudding (let me have your throw away e-mail and I can send you some (just sautéed off) or black pudding, and then a little steamed samphire with it.....
I like the stuffed peppers ideas, but no frills easy to prepare, as you said, Barmaid...I would opt for Bruschetta...Toasted pagnotta bread with marinated tomatoes, fresh basil and ricotta salata.....one of my faves.
poached egg on smoked salmon and pickled samphire
I`d probably just do a butternut squash soup which is nice and autumnal
Have to go for more tests Tambo.
yikes, ummmm, no indication yet? sorry Barmaid....
I love my goats cheese and aubergine stack. Griddle slices of aubergine, layer up with slices of goat's cheese and squeeze zig zags of balsamic all over the plate and stand the stack on top.
So far they think I have ulcers in my intestines, fluid in my stomach, very low BP and vitB deficiency. Waiting for a referral to the gastric team and then the gall bladder team.
Rocket with duck and sweet chilli sauce, nice and light and so easy to prepare.
Gosh, that sounds nasty Ummmm. Could it be Crohn's or ulcerative colitis? Anyway, I hope you get some answers and feel better soon
surely not the whole lot....anyway fingers crossed and I would have thought 3/4 of the food on here is out!
Oh ummmm......wishing you all the best for a speedy diagnosis...once doctor's know.....get better quickly x

( Excuse me, Barmaid )
No better ideas for starters, sorry.

I'm blushing.
I hope you get some answers soon ummmm and that you start to feel better. Many gastro tests are really not the easiest to go through, I've had loads to check for Crohns etc... I hope they get the tests and follow up sorted quickly for you.
Hi Barmaid I would just do a soup for starters that you can make earlier in the day and just have to warm a french stick with some garlic butter
Hi Barmaid hope all went well for your supper
