Unless frying chips, I usually prefer to eat potatoes not peeled, either boiled or wrapped in aluminium foil heated in the oven, with butter.

Now I have been told that eating spuds + skin is not recommended. But no sensible and reliable reason could be given.

Can anybody shed light on this matter, please?

Thank you.

Never heard of that. Was of the understanding that most nutrients were just under the skin. Not that I've ever checked that. Maybe your informant isn't washing their spuds first ?
The only time I peel potatoes is when I make potato soup. The skin is where the best flavour and nutrition is.

WB: That is what I thought. Ditto for fruits such as apples and pears.
I always make a point of washing all fruit and veg before putting them in the fridge. Then they're ready for use.
That's the right thing to do gl. So much nicer.
I rarely peel...wash and de- eye. Is that the terminology ?
I don't eat the skins even on baked potatoes.
Rough cut with skins..drizzle of oil and bake...yum...good with dips..
Too right minty! lots of goodness in the skins.
Do them in air fryer now....Have found a chilli oil that I mist them with...

So, I WILL stick to the potatoes in their jackets. The Skins have it, as one might say.
Thank you for your contributions.

--> England for The Six Nations'!
Well done gl. I think you will find the difference. :o}

England or Ireland for the Six Nations.
I peel old potatoes but wash and scrub new ones.
Old potatoes? What are they? ;o}
Old potatoes were for autumn/winter and new ones for spring/summer. Due to imports we are not dependent on the seasons. I distinctly remember when I was young that the price of a bag of chips would increase from 3d to 4d in the summer months then go back down to 3d in the autumn. One year they went up and didn't come back down, and have continued to go up ever since. You could buy 120 bags for the price of one these days in the early 60s.
I remember that jack!

I buy my spuds from the farm as soon as they are out of the ground. A bag lasts a year. Keep them in a cool place and they stay fresh.
I'm going to have a bash at growing my own in pots this tear. Got four different varieties so hopefully at least one will thrive.
