Try putting a little olive oil in with it while cooking, this should stop it sticking together.

Thanks. Would cooking oil work the same?

Yes any cooking oil and stir it with a fork whilst it is cooking, it should be OK then.
I put the spaghetti back in the pot and then toss with some butter and/or a bit of the sauce immediately after straining.

Thank you everyone. I am sure tonight's results will be o.K.

And use the biggest saucepan you can with lots of boiling water help dissipate the starch which is a cause of it sticking together.

If its stuck together you cooked it too long. I look at what it says on the packet and take off two minutes. Make sure water is boiling when you put it in and dont use a lid.
its not caused by cooking for too long as it sticks together almost immediately it goes in the water. the best bet is to agitate it with a form whilst cooking
Put simply, you need to use lots and lots of boiling water with your spaghetti - in as big a pan as you have. Oil doesn't work whilst cooking - it's fine to dress the cooked spaghetti.
i meant fork not form!
rinse under cold water when cooked and return to the pan after to get it hot again
