This is the method I've used since discovering it: http://www.delia-online.com/cookeryschool/howto/ho

take one cup of rice and place in saucepan. rinse with cold water until water is clear. drain all the water and then add one and a half cups of fresh water to the pan. place on the cooker and bring to the boil stirring. next turn the heat right down to a slow simmer and cover the pan with a lid. leave this for 10mins or until the rice has absorbed all the water. fluff through with a fork and you have perfect rice.
The best way to make Basmati Rice is for each portion i.e. one cup of rice use one and a half cups of water. Put rice on the Gas stirring continually so it doesn't stick then once it starts to simmer, cover with a lid and place on the lowest gas for 10 mins (do not remove the lid at anytime) after this, turn off the gas and leave for another 10 minutes and you should get light and fluffy rice.
