do you concentrate on what they are saying - I find myself looking at what they have in their rooms! The furniture, pictures, that sort of thing - am I just being nosey?

Yes!
Human instinct. That’s why shows like Location Location Location are so popular.
Lol, I do too, Lankeela.

We've just had some guidance issued on doing hearings by video link and one of the things we have to consider is the backdrop. Mr BM rather cheekily said "So if I walked behind you naked, you wouldnt be very happy?"
I'm nosy too so I do the same.

The odd thing is that I am probably the most un-materialistic person you could ever wish to meet - I don't even have matching pillows on my bed! I hate the thought of anyone looking at me through the screen which is why I don't skype or whatever they do these days. Even in photos of my dogs I check the background before sharing them!
I find myself doing the same , can't think who it was being interviewed a few days ago , but noticed a book on a shelf behind him facing the camera with Boris on the front. Must have been a true Blue.
I’m shouting “Lift your computer!” as they are all looking DOWN at their screens and it looks as if they’re peering down their noses!
There was a couple on tv a few days back, part of a news story (can't remember what it was about but it was quite a solemn piece) and I couldn't help but notice that, behind them, their wallpaper didn't quite match up. What they were saying actually became just background noise as I studied the wallpaper. :-(
Yes, you are - and so am I! I find myself trying to read the titles of the books on their bookshelves.
I watch channel 4 news and Jon Snow is broadcasting from home. I'm always trying to read the titles of the books behind him. So much so that much of the time I don't catch what he's saying.
Like Naomi, I’m intrigued by what’s on their bookshelves
Ken - I do the same with Jon Snow
Strangely enough I don't.

Would love to see some cats walking past screens or jump up on laps :o)
I wonder why in this digital age do so many of them have a bookcase full of books behind them. Also just how many of their rooms look so plain and boring.
I've tried reading books online, Andres, but I still love paper books and physically turning pages :o)
Andres. A line from ‘Abigail’s Party’ springs to mind (re. nicely bound sets of Shakespeare)...

“Not for reading, of course.”
I own (and frequently use) a kindle. I also have over 100 books on bookcases and in boxes. Reading from the Kindle is okay, but there is something comforting about the weight and smell of a hardback.
the plus side is we're not seeing morons pulling faces behind them while they try to do their piece ...

I too have a Kindle, but my reference books - shelves full of them - don't work well on a Kindle - even if they're published electronically which many of them aren't. For ease of finding specific information, there's nothing like flipping through the pages of a real book.
Oh goodness, yes,
The sound is just for company while I look at interiors.
