Soda bread is very easy to make.

I don't really like it though unless it's covered in butter and jam.

Does it produce a very dry bread? You'd need lots of tea to help wash it down.
its scone like sandy. If you put stuff like oats in it it can be dry....its never as springy as yeast bread.
It is quite dry, imo.

I really don't get this - there's plenty of bread on the supermarket shelves.

Diddly - I, like many others, invested in a bread-maker (to save my arms, time and sanity ) because we like to know what's in our bread and prefer it fresh. Now I am really struggling for flour and, particularly, yeast. I may be driven to using baking powder. :(
^^^ Don't even start thinking about using the words 'domestic goddess' in regard to me. :(
Sainsburys had yeast on their website yesterday
when you get back home Sandy - go to Knotts for their soda bread - not dry - really nice.
Asda had yeast in this morning although I have just taken a rye soda bread loaf from the oven. Oh yum. Now where's the home made jam
