Improve Chicken Casserole
15 Answers
My husband does all the cooking, he likes to do it and its not a chore for him. However, his food can be plain and bland. He made a chicken casserole, with leeks and carrots for tea last night and we are having the rest tonight. It was very dull and boring last night. Can I put something in it tonight to give it a lift?

I suspect that the missing ingredient is salt. Most recipes say 'season well' and what they really mean is add salt (perhaps a bit of pepper, too). The trouble is that people's palates become so used to salt that they forget what natural food tastes like; imagine crisps without salt. Unfortunately, too much salt is probably bad for our health; we don't treck miles nowadays to lick a rockface or salt pan to make up for our salt loss due to sweating profusely under a tropical sun. But most people are probably unable to countenance salt reduction any more than meat reduction, although they are both rewarding if achieved.
