I haven't. Although it's only husbands n I I do want to cook something out of the norm to make the day special. However, I'm so disorganised that I've not done anything yet. thinking of a serious seafood platter, (lobster, gravileaux, the works!) but must get *rse into gear and order from fishmonger tomorrow(I like cooking so doing it from scratch is ok). Just hope im not too late to order

If you want anything from the supermarkets online...forget it. No slots left. It's just me, but I want to treat myself nice...I'll be dragging myself to the shops several times to get what I need. Today was the wine. Priorities!
Question Author
like your priorities pasta!!! yup tried to get a supermarket slot (tried various supermarkets...no joy!)
Roses, Celebrations and Pringles, do they count???
Order coming from Tesco on the 21st and a local butcher's order on the 23rd.

Most deffo zebo - you've got a starters, mains, and dessert there!

far more organised than me mamyalyne! I must remember to ring fishmongers tomorrow. Although.... I am tempted to do a dash around Tesco's at 10pm....by then most of it will be reduced!! Not sure if I'd find the lobster though. But surely there will be reduced salmon (maybe not gravelaux but still), muscles, prawns etc.
Get me some muscles whilst you're there, they had none left when I looked ;-)
Question Author
anyone done a supermarket dash literally in the final hours of Xmas eve?
Are the shelves all nearly empty?
Have a got a (fairish) chance of finding enough things reduced to knock up seafood platter?
Are the supermarkets really empty so late on a xmas eve or still packed with folk?
Supermarket shelves are empty! Hardly any frozen turkeys left, no crowns, could be chicken nuggets for a Christmas!
Question Author
Now mamyalyne exactly what sort of muscles were you looking for tsskkk tssssk :)
Yes, everything but the fresh stuff
Question Author
ah so much more organised than me Bobbi! Ideally I'd wanted "fresh" everything but I may resort to anything I can find last minute lol. Seafood platter is what I want to do
10 minutes to closing , large Asda, a woman screaming at the staff because there were no fresh sprouts! Didn't they know it was blankety blank Christmas???
yes almost all done. got a Waitrose delivery on sunday but if I didn't get any of it we wouldn't starve.
i used to work in a supermarket and can confirm there are people still trying to get in the doors to buy turkey after they are locked
I'm not keen on seafood Eve , prawns are about as far as it goes with me
Question Author
BEdnobs and Zebo thats crazy!
Question Author
bednobs as you'd worked in a supermarket are there still half decent things on the shelves late xmas eve? And...is a lot reduced?
Click and collect booked for Monday, I just checked and there’s still a few slots left Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
I’m hopeful we’ll get most of what I’ve ordered, it’s mainly fresh veg, fruit, and cream, if not then we’ll do without, I’m not going near a shop.
I have stuff in the freezer that could be frozen, bought weeks ago, and a bag of non perishable things in a spare bedroom, so I doubt we’ll starve.
Have another slot booked for the Tuesday after Christmas too.
I have a mini-turkey crown and a v. small ham all ready to prep. and roast. Also have a small pudding and a locally made small cake. I have mince and will make mince pies over the next couple of days. I still need to buy prawns and fresh salad and sprouts, carrots and parsnips and lemons for the smoked salmon for breakfast (bought that yesterday). I do have some frozen prawns in reserve if necessary.

Since I don't know when, or for how long, son in Devon will visit, I am going to buy 1 1/2 lbs. of stewing steak tomorrow and make a lot of beef stew and freeze it in accessible quantities. Then all I have to do is baked potato and dumplings and I can feed him and us.

It's all very awkward, not knowing who can get here, when and for how long - but we'll survive! If it's not perfect - who cares. :)
