my mum had a kitchen gadget: and expanding oven dish holder. When she had a hot oven dish she pulled the two handles apart (the base was articulated) and popped the hot dish in. You could hold it by the handles and lie it on the dining table as the hot dish did not come into contact with your hands or table. I have looked in John Lewis and also on the Divertimenti and Pampered Chef sites to no avail. Has anyone heard of such an implement? Many thanks.

Hi. An expandable trivet is made by Trudeau. Comes in 2 sizes, and you should be able to order one from a good ironmongers, cookware shop or similar. If no luck, US websites like cooking.com should have one.
