What Happens To The Pod After Shelling Peas In Factories?

peas are hugely popular, but you never see the empty pods available to buy.

what happens to them? surely they dont just bin them?

It's almost certainly used as animal feed. This video, from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, shows pea pods being manually processed before being fed to cattle but it must certainly be possible to do much the same thing on a commercial scale in factories:

They feed them to cows and that's why you get green milk. That and the grass of course.
