I’m late and can’t even post under your question!
My great auntie used to make Pwdin Crwst with stale bread soaked in cold tea. I know there were spices and sugar but not much else. She was from north wales and was a cook in service.
The top was crispy and the inside was a firm but wet consistency and you could pick up a slice and eat it with your hands.
I’ve been searching for the recipe for a while and everyone makes suggestions that it’s bread pudding or bara brith but they’re way off the mark! You’re the first person to even use the same name for it!

What you're looking for seems remarkably similar to the Welsh version of bread pudding:

"She who must be obeyed" tells me that when her Aunts( father's sisters) made it after the bread had been soaked in tea for a little while then drained down, milk and sugar was added and the crusty top was oats sprinkled on top. She cannot remember the whole process but maintains that the top was oats that had soaked up milk and were sweetened. She and all her family are Welsh speakers.(and mental as anything) :))
