Today I saw 'fried onions' in a tin - dread to think what it tastes like - who can't fry an onion - surely it needs to be reheated anyway!!?
I thought 'microwave mashed potato' was bad, mashed potato in a ready meal tray! Who can't boil and mash a potato !!? Can't take any longer than doing it properly can it?

Can anyone top these?

These Easy Life onions are really good. They are handy to have in the cupboard as a standby. Very good on burgers and with sausages. You can also use as a base for onion soup.
I agree with manathu.
They are a really good storecupboard standby.Great for use in curries and for sausages and mash. I wouldn't dream of buying ready made mash and stuff like that .but it's always handy to have a few tins of this and that in the cupboard......try them..I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Still makes me laugh when I see bags of grated cheese for sale in supermarkets! Finely done parmesan, fair enough but not cheddar etc!
But then I suppose for arthritic people and the like, it would be a good thing - before I get a bashing on that one!
Country -boy you have hit the nail on the head !!
I find it really difficult these days to chop and peel stuff with my arthritic swollen fingers so things like bags of ready diced veg ie..diced swede and carrot...and so on are a boon for me.I grate my cheese in the food processor !

omelette in a tin! - with beans, but its bleurgh!

just wait for microwavable toast!!

Frozen chips and gravy! If you're that lazy, get down the chippy!
I saw these on my most recent trip to Tesco and bought some as for some reason the frozen sliced onions I usually buy have been out of stock for the last couple of weeks.#

I know its lazy, but I cant stand the smell of onions on my hands after chopping them.

Ooops, apologies if I've offended anyone - maybe I should've titled this thread " Who uses tinned fried onions?"

My Mum's arthritic and uses one of those hand held blenders with the chopping attachment.

I however remain to be convinced and don't think I'll bother buying any.

It just makes me think of the soggy stodge on top of a fast food burger or hot dog. I prefer my onions either crisp or 'al dente'.
The only onions I have in the cupboard for curries, stews, pies etc. are the dried variety - they work a treat and provide a nice intense flavour - something I doubt the soggy tinned variety could do.

And before berates me, I must state I have no onion drying facilities at home.

Once again, many apologies for my ill thought out title, no offence was intended.

Happy cooking everyone.
Absolutely no offence taken jon1968.
We all have our funny little ways when it comes to cooking..in fact I used to cook for a living! But these days and after donkeys years of cooking for a family and not in top fit state it becomes more of a chore ! So anything for me to make life easier.
But I do draw the line at frozen chips and Gravy !!! :)
I once "won" a tin of haggis in a tombola........Oh lucky me. I am vegetarian! So maybe haggis is always sold in a tin and I am unaware..... And so this answer may be a total waste of time!

About a year or so ago, I saw some tinned sprouts.

Now I love sprouts, fresh, lightly boiled with a bit of firmness to them.
Frozen? I would eat them, to be polite if presented with them.
But tinned ?!!! Bleurgggh!

I then decided that I wanted, in fact, had to have a tin of sprouts in my cupboard - more as a talking point then anything else - but could I remember where I'd seen them? Could I hell as like!

So now I'm left to wander the supermarket aisles of the world looking for my tinned sprouts.

I nearly feel over laughing in the supermarket once cause there was a tub of "liquid egg" I kid you not!!! The mind boggles
I find these straight to wok noodles amusing they claim to take only 4 or so minutes to cook. The usual 12 minutes for regular noodles is obviously far too long!!!

Liquid egg is used in the catering industry as they can offer either yolk or whites, and where a factory needs tons of yolk - what would they do with the whites if its not to be used up? So I'm afraid there are reasons for that one, mycatis.

If you really want to be amused one day, pop into a Chinese supermarket and have alook at the different things other people enjoy and that should keep you going for a while.

How about grass jelly pudding (red or black or greeen)? black tapioca? porridge in a can, to drink? Grab a Durian fruit and inhale (then leave before the results show) or check the freezers for the chickens paws...

These shops are the absolute bees knees for spices, curry pastes, chili oils, sauces and the like, plus fresh and frozen fish, shellfish, dim sum of course, some exotic veg and the best priced woks and whatever as they serve the local community - oh and its the only place to buy instant noodle snacks as they usually have at least 20 versions - but you do wonder what to do with a couple of the things on the shelves.

I can't stand ANY convenience food. I have never had any ready meals etc. and I never intend to. I never buy any kind of meat in a tin either - tinned burgers? Bleugh! Tinned mince?? even more bleugh! Spam?? Please shoot me now!

I have to confess to buying the frozen ready chopped onions for emergencies only, as I do sometimes find myself having gonr to the supermarket and forgotten to buy that all important onions - so it's great for emergency use.

I now see why the sell grated cheese! People with arthritis! I did used to think that was very lazy. However my perfectly heathy non arthritic friend buys grated cheese because "its quicker".

I think those tins of beans with nuggets already inside or "full english breakfast" in a tin! Yuck!

People who buy cans of coke for the household. Is it too much to open the bottle, get out a glass pour it in, drink then wash the glass?

(p.s- i'm not really that bothered how lazy other people want to be, I just wanted to join in!)

Better go, I'm off to buy some ready digested sandwiches for my lunch.

Soon they'll be selling bile in supermarkets.

i buy the ready grated cheese becasue bizrrely its often cheaper per 100g than blocks. and I'm stingey
I think fried onions are a good idea because I hate the smell that lingers for days after I have fried my own oinions.
