Hello,
I'm university student in Japan.
I've been studying UK food to write graduation thesis.
I have some questions for everyone about that.
✓Do you like UK food? why?
and would you please tell me if you know something related to UK food, culture or ways of thinking about food and so on.
For you to research the following could be classed as English food
Christmas Pudding, Yorkshire pudding, Cornish Pasty, Fish and Chips, Trifle, Toad in the Hole. Then to Scotland for Haggis and Scotch eggs, then Wales. Have fun
Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding
Roast Lamb, roast potatoes, vegetables and mint sauce
Egg and Chips
Cod and Chips
Bread and Butter Pudding
Spotted Dick
Hi! One big difference would be ' steamed puddings', a traditional UK dessert, not unlike a steamed dumpling, but done in one big bowl. Some ideas for you here :
Another thing you could study would be the names of meals in different regions. Breakfast, the first meal of the day, is pretty much universal, the mid day meal can be called 'Lunch' or 'Dinner' depending which part of the UK you come from, your age or your Class. The same for the evening meal, 'Tea' or 'dinner' or 'supper'.
In the past 'Tea' was taken at four o'clock by upper and middle classes, a small snack that consisted of Tea along with small dainty cakes and sanddwiches.
I was born and raised in the UK, so, of course I like UK food. Why? because I was fed UK food by my parents. Until I became able to make my own decisions, I knew no other kind of food. When I became an adult, I was able to travel to other countries and, of course, I ate their food, but it was never anything exotic. I have not developed, as a result of my travels, a noticeable taste for foreign food, and I am still happy to eat UK food.
I'm used to UK food, as I grew up here. It's breakfast, lunch, dinner... or in the North- breakfast, dinner, tea. Dinner is a hot cooked meal, so, depends when you have that.
Other cuisines are very popular here- Chinese, Thai, Indian, Italian etc... so, it's quite varied.
Oh, sorry apg.
Maybe history would be good to add in. But, also, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, all have different traditions and meals, so going by area, may be a good way to write it.
OH has dinner and I have tea. Same meal at same time. Different background. He has breakfast and I have crib. Different times but still first meal of the day.
All the answers you get will be confusing to you I expect. Good luck in sorting it all out.

Yes I do because it's usually bland. Just a small amount of spice makes me feel like my mouth is on fire.
There are certain foods that may be named after a place as in Yorkshire Puddings, Manchester Tart, Cornish Pasty and many others.
Cheese is often named after places as in Cheshire, Lancashire, Leicester, Caerphilly.
They way I think about food is, if it tastes nice, it's probably not good for you!
