Food Safety Issue = Airtight Vs Airless

I get aqueous cream from the doctor, & it comes in large airless vacuum pump-action bottles.
I have a few empties & it occurred to me that i often throw half bottles of sauce away as i live alone & dont use it all up in time of the Use-by date, or it goes off.
would decanting into these bottles help it last much longer?

Or would it be a faff for only a few days extra?
Vacuum sealing food helps preserve but seems to be just for frozen food?

I think it would be a faff. Sauce keeps for ages in the bottles it comes in (are we talking ketchup, etc, rather than fresh sauces from the shops?). I ignore the use by dates as long as there's no mould growing on it.

Wouldn't the aqueous cream residue taint the sauce?

As Vagus said, ketchup etc are fine as they come.

As an aside, Husband is very keen on ''proper brands". He doesn't know I fill the Heinz ketchup bottle with a cheap supermarket own brand. Don't tell him...

any sauce that doesnt keep very long. there a many that dont last long - even many ketchups etc have to be in the fridge or only last a month or so.
also id wash the cream residue out.

another thought, is that it might not be food safe/food grade plastic.

 

I'd never transfer sauce (the stuff that you eat) to a container that had 'aqueous cream from the doctor'. The transfer might introduce stuff into the sauce that would be worse than what the sauce might receive from living in a closed sauce bottle.

Why would you want to do that?

ive literally just explained why in the post ... lots of people transfer sauces into other containers ...

there would be no air touching the sauce so no bacteria in the air will be on it.

Exposure to air while transferring the sauce would surely be more than leaving the stuff in its original bottle. It's your choice, but I'd rather eat up the sauce while it's reasonably fresh than repackage it.

no, not at all, there is air in the bottle all the time, just sitting there in the bottle, then every time you open the bottle theres more.
every time you shake the bottle, that air is mixed through the sauce.
Sauces are exposed to air in the prep stage in the factory.
This would take out all air, all the time
