Do Vacuum Packed Kippers Have Bones?

I have always loved kippers

My late partner(despite being Scottish) could not stand even the smell of them 

Now that I only have myself to please (and a very efficient extractor fan)

I thought I would try them again?

I am thinking of the ones that you get in a vacuum pack with a pat of butter 

I think that they do have fine bones would you eat this?

I do eat skinless and boneless mackerel fillets so should I stick to those?

Yes they do have the occasional bones. I buy them when the whim strikes me. Two slices of buttered bread and kippers. Guaranteed to give me a little heartburn, but worth it.

Well, they did whilst they swam, but most bones are removed during processing and the few that remain are edible little ones.

I'm sure you won't choke to death on a fish bone.

The queen mother nearly pegged on a fish bone. Those kipper bones will stick in your throat like a tax demand.

Kippers are nice. Generally speaking they have bones removed but you often find a few. Just be aware.

Like you, I love Kippers and in to answer your question yes the vacuum packed ones do have bones (not many) and dont quite taste the same to me.

I stick to the fish counter - there is an art in removing the kipper bones cleanly and I think thats part of the enjoyment of the rare occasions I have one.

Kippers in my youth always had bones, but they were more like whiskers and could be swallowed without fear.

Tunned salmon also had bones (vertebrae) but they crunched up to soft powder and were no problem.

I've always eaten kipper bones, even when young.  They are soft and good for you

Oddly enough my German great grandmother's surname was 

Brathering

Which means fried herring and of course kippers are herring 

So perhaps I was fated to like them?
