I Am A Supermarket Snob-Advice Please

Having seen TV programme about own brand products, where,both Lidl and Aldi came off well in comparisons,I think I would like to try both?

The nearest Lidl is about 13 miles from me and Aldi about 11 miles

Aldi is seeking planning permission for a shop in Rye(3 miles from me!)

Which of the two would you choose and why?

There's Lidl difference between the two.

Aldi (almost) every time for price, choice & service.

Lidl only scores on in-store bakery & some usually one-off foreign food/drink offerings.

From a local newspaper 

Aldi's new supermarket in Rye HAS received planning permission 

The new store development will include retirement homes,just like mine!

Maybe I should move?

Prefer Aldi for its jams/marmalade, juices, butter, cold meats, wines and, of course, chocolate 😋

It's 50/50...my lidl seems to stock more unusual items and has regular specials weeks focusing on European countries. Their ribeyes are good, and I've taken to getting a lot of my fish there.

IMO they are much the same. The big draw in each is "the middle aisles" where you will find non-food items (usually on a theme) which change constantly - twice a week.

To get a feel for each, visit their websites and look at their weekly brochures.

Aldi is much better on the wine front, Lidl marginally better on continental cheeses. Lidl do lovely pralines and similar chocolates at Easter and Christmas. Lidl's bakery is pretty good too. 

I use both but probably Aldi's more often for a big shop and I generally only pop to Lidl for a few bits.

Neither.

Their stuff is cheaper because it's mostly poor quality.

Shopping there is not a good experience (unless you enjoy looking at the cheap tat in the middle aisle)

They are both German based companies but their products are diferent brands. Aldi s notorious for its rapid paced till operators and you need to pack quickly. The prices are much the same as is the quality of the goods. You could try both and see what you prefer

I get my butter...West Country with Seasalt...from lidl. 85% dark chocolate from either, and olive oil from aldi. Both have OK cheeses. Toby prefers aldis tiny tins of cat food 😋 

There's just a 5 minute walk between them, so I pick and choose.

18.35  I would disagree... enjoy shopping at Aldi (or Lidl on the rare occasion) and I totally ignore the 'tat' in the middle aisles.

You're supposed to put your shopping back in the trolley at check out and pack your bags at the convenient long shelf near by

Total bullsheet - their quality is as good as any other of the popular supermarkets.

Aldi service is second to none - Morrisons tills are like afternoon nap time at a care home, Asda & Tesco are backed up with several trolley loads at every till. I rarely take more than 5 mins to check out at Aldi.

I prefer my local Lidl by dint of them having a better car park - the spaces are wider than those at my local Aldi, once you manage to manoeuvre your car into a space, you can't open the car door to get out. Even more so, if some d!ckhead hasn't parked between the lines properly.

Aldi for me!!! It's local, food & alcohol too notch and it's cheap!!!
