I have a Pukka All Steak Pie from Waitrose which has been kept in my fridge but is now over its Use By Date of 26 January. They are delicious but do I eat it or not?  Advice please.

I have a five day rule after use by date if kept in the fridge, stand at a distance prod it with a fork if it doesn't move on it's own volition, safe then for the smell test.

I wouldn't take the chance - that's 11 days beyond the use by date

Aren't they 'Best before' and not 'Use by'?

If it's been kept in the fridge all the time, then no problem at all.

No, I wouldn't eat anything past that long date especially meat or chicken.

Not

I wouldn't eat it either but then I'm ultra careful about things like that!

Thank you, I won't eat it.  Be OK for the dog though won't it?

As tempting as it my be, no, no, no! 😲

Got another in the freezer, so I won't starve.

If it hasn't got actual mould growing on it, and smells and looks ok, then to be perfectly honest I'd eat it. But everyone does what they feel is right for them.

I worry about you :0) The pie in the bin? Or your head over the loo all night?

I would even baulk at eating it on 26th. January. No way, Jose!

Question Author

Well I ate a bit of it and I'm still here.  The dog ate more and he's still here.

Question Author

I'm thinking it must have been in the freezer then only out for a couple of days.

It can take hours...or a day or more for something to have an 'effect'. Hope you continue ok.

As it's neither frozen or canned, I don't think I would risk it.

Very mixed reviews on Waitrose site.

I hope not Pasta as I have been so ill for days and not eating at all.  As advised I took it out of its packaging and smelt it and it smelt fine and it tasted fine.  However, I'll take a bucket to bed with me just in case.

Good luck ladybirder, I'm sure you'll be OK 😊

...don't forget the bucket for the dog!

Thank you Canary.

Tilly if my Jay feels as if he wants to go out when I'm in bed he runs backwards and forwards from me to the patio doors.  Then I have to get up and let him out.  No bucket needed for him.
