Car Tax Scam

Yesterday I received an email purportedly from Gov.uk to say that my car had not been taxed and I was going to be reported.  There was an official looking number heading the email and the Gov.uk logo was on it, but looked copied onto the email.  I was advised to update my details through a link.  I know my car tax runs out on June 1, but to make sure, I went online to check that was correct.  It was.  I wonder if anyone else has had this scam.  It is very authentic looking.  I was scammed two years ago, but refused to pay by bankers draft, only card.  They knew my son's name, and his details, or I wouldn't have paid.  I got half my money back from the bank, but I am much more wary now.

i want people to be aware how clever these people are.  I hope someone hasn't taxed my car to their name, but don't want to reply to say I know it is a scam.

Thanks for the warning, I have heard of this before.

Easy rule to follow hover or click on the sender's email to see their real email address

Email addresses can be spoofed so that should not be the only precaution

You can't spoof a government email address!

the top can be spoofed but not the bottom layer!

Thank you!  It looked as if the notice had been cut and pasted onto the body of the email.
