If the former, try it. Smoking is a way to preserve and if it's a vacuum sealed pack it should be fine. But as my grandmother taught me, when in doubt, throw it out.
However, if it's in the freezer there should be no problem. I have wild smoked salmon that I got at Christmas (and froze straight away) that I'll be very happy to eat at Easter or later... if we can leave it alone that long, it's delicious....
