Manchester Tart?

Another school pudding which I think is called Manchester Tart, pastry base, then a layer of jam, a layer of sliced banana (or was it cooked apple), topped off with cold custard and a sprinkling of desicated coconut, it was delish. Anyone else remember it or better still is it still made in schools.

The best pud ever - it was my favourite at school, but we just had jam then custard, no apple or banana, but it was still delicious. Ah .... happy days before diets were thought of !!

Oh I loved Manchester Tart, however my favorite was chocolate sponge with peppermint sauce.

Asda sell them, though it may only be in their northern branches.

Hi ACW, whereabouts in asda will I find them? ie, frozen, chilled, in store bakery or in the cakes - biscuits section. I don;t bake much these days and my partner has never tried it.

In the bakery area at Asda is where you'll find em! With all the cream cakes.. mind you I didn't think they were as good as they were when I was a child.. but still they do bring back those memories! ;-)

Thank you Karen, I will have a look for them when I next go to Asda, but if they are next to the cream cakes then I don't know if I will be able to resist the temptation to pick the cream cakes and make my own tart later, as you say nothing tastes the same as when you were young, but then there wasn't all these additives back then. :-)

Not quite 'back to school', but darn good pud. Both easy to do, and no need to be a Delia either. Just combining and baking really.

And don't forget the pink custard - from a copper jug as well!
