I want to drink a glass of fruit juice as part of my 5 a day fruit portions, but am confused by all the drinks on offer. Some cartons are under 1, some are more than 2, some say 'no bits' -whatever that signifies. Can someone tell me the best fruit juice to buy? Not too sweet as i am type 2 diabetes.

The best thing to go for are the new 'innocent' drinks. They come in a variety of flavours (personally i like mangoes n passionfruit) and are 100% fruit with no added sugar, chemicals etc. However they are quite pricey in the range of fruit juices!!!! Another alternative is if u have a smoothie maker or a blender etc just make ur own with some fruit or try adding a yoghurt to it aswell!!!
I drink gallons of the Tesco's value pure OJ....absolutely gorgeous stuff and only around 40p a carton
The best is juice that is not from concentrate (this will be written on the carton). I know you said you only want to drink a glass a day, but if you do drink it in excess you may want to check with your doctor if this is ok as I think that fruit juice can raise your blood sugar levels. Its something to do with the fructose (fruits natural sugars) being in the juice, and the fibre being in the pulp - which is lost during the juicing process One glass a day probably wont do any harm but Im no expert, so you may want to get a second opinion from your doctor/dietician!

Get a cheap juicer, and you can make up fruit or veg drinks, with yoghurt, soy milk or goats milk base or just juice, with whatever is in season.

The fructose will be higher in some fuits as stated - check with your doctor or health visitor at the surgery and they should have a list of fruits based on the diabetic 'requirements'

If you haven't a juicer, but use a blender, you can easily make up drinks anyway. Just strain the pulp. A good breakfast would be a banana, milk, a little fresh orange juice and if you fancy it, break a whole egg into the blender and top with a little bran for roughage. Whizz it up with a couple of ice cubes. (note on raw eggs for the pregnant or elderly - follow usual advice)

Juice from concentrate though better than nothing is far from the best product. 'Bits' simply means some of the pulp, so it has a bit of texture (so you think you are drinking fresh).

innocent smoothies i wasnt 2 keen on them at first but i drink it all the time now strawberry and banana is my favourite and there buy one get one free in sainsburys!
Anything by Copella (?) is good. Basically you should drink fruit juice NOT made from concentrate. Look at the ingredients- it should just be fruit. No processing or added sugar etc. Note that too much fruit juice can actually be quite bad news- it is healthier to have a small glass per day, and eat actual fruit!!
Avoid anything described as a 'fruit juice drink' - the proportion of juice will be minimal.
I agree about Innocent smoothies - they're so nice (mangoes and passionfruit my favourite too), and 250ml contains your recommended intake of fruit for the day. Not cheap, but sometimes can find them on offer. IN fact I'm drinking a glass as I type!
