With price of gas going up, I think I will do my casseroles in a slow cooker. Can anybody recommend a family sized reasonably priced reliable brand ? Thanking for any suggestions in advance.

Yes argos do a nice family size one. I wouldnt be without mine I do nearly everything in it beef and lamb cooks so tender and no shrinkage I do pork as well but have to put the crackling in with the roast potatoes.Stews just put everything in and forget it will cook on lowest setting all day .
Argos number 883/0801 is the one I have and it's excellent. Sainsburys are currently selling it for 20 so you might be lucky.

I have a white crock slo cooker and they are great because they can also be taken and put in the oven! Whats more they are dishwasher safe so no washing up of caked on stew!

how about getting an electric pressure cooker, you can also use it as a slow cooker. you will be killing 2 birds with 1 stone. i love it and in no time you can cook almost anything. an 8 quart is a decent size.
