Ox Tail soup

OK, I'm a single fifty year old male. My mum died many years ago, and sad to say, most of the women these days don't actually cook the sort of things I grew up with, including Ox Tail soup. Liver & Bacon I can get in the pub, real steak and kidney pies I can actually make myself, but I need to know how to make an Ox Tail soup as our mums would have made it back in the 60's and before. Anyone any recipes?

I'm about the same age as you. My mother always used the same reference that her mother did, i.e. Mrs Beeton!

When I saw your post I immediately thought to refer to the well-worn volume which was handed down to me. Then I remembered that I'd lent it to a friend who lost it (or, more likely, flogged it at a car boot sale!).

I�m off at a tangent her but can you still buy Oxtails? I thought they�d been banned because of the BSE hoo-ha?
I used to see them all the time but I haven�t seen them for ages although obviously they must still be around as a by product - I want some now!
Is it the same as selling beef matured on the bone was and having to find a �friendly� butcher??

For the person who asked, yeah, you can still buy Oxtails, which is is what prompted the question - I have noticed them in my local Morrisons for the last few nonths.

And as for being single, I can assure you it is by choice.

We have bought oxtails at our local Tesco in the past couple of months. Mind you, it may depend on the branch.
