I baked a sponge cake with sultanas and cherries in yesterday, and although the sponge has turned out really light and fluffy, all of the fruit has sunk to the bottom of the cake, any idea on what i did wrong?

Did you wash the fruit before you put it in the mixture ?
This will cause it to sink. A good tip to stop it sinking is to toss the dried fruit etc in flour first and then add it to the cake mixture by folding it in gently.

I didn't wash the fruit first, was i supposed to?
shaneystar2 is right, always coat the fruits with flour before adding into the batter.
No you don't have to wash the fruit ..as I said if you had done so the fruit will sink. These days you don't need to wash it..they did years ago when you used to buy it loose ....just toss it in the flour and you should get perfect cakes.
