Ooh, yes! A few years ago I would eat one of those little Fry's bars every day - bliss!! My love affair ended when I was given the genuine article from Turkey to try, and it was the most disgusting muck I have ever tasted!!
Oh yes, I agree with Cetti! Those Fry's bars are delicious, and 98% fat free into the bargain! I also like the 'Rose and Lemon' variety you normally find this time of year, the sort covered in icing sugar. Yum! I don't think I've ever tried the genuine stuff but I'll heed Cetti's comments and avoid it!
Oddly enough, flirty, the most popular flavours for the genuine article are Rose and Lemon.....and they are covered in icing sugar. Proper lokum (the Turkish word for it...!) is more chewy, and strangely enough less sweet than our version - I say strangely because the Turks have the most incredible sweet tooth. But the best has got to be pistachio - to die for!
Oh the pistachio Turkish Delight is wonderful. I used to beg people to bring me boxes of the real stuff from Turkey then last Christmas Asda were selling boxes of the real stuff!!!. I looked for it again this year but no luck!
After seeing all your positive comments, I'm wondering if it's possible that we just had a bad batch, because I adore pistachio flavour , but ours was so bad we had to bin the lot.
The trick with TD is to get it as fresh as possible and buy the small clear stuff.....for some reason, they've started selling some disgusting type recently over there, which is like tough marshmallow coated in coconut....yuk! I can see I'll have to bring you over a sample from our next visit in May for Cetti and flirty.......
YUK NO!!! URGH i remember trying them about 10years ago when the naff advert was on with the camel in the desert. I can remember the smell of them even now. They are pure WRONG
