Does anyone know when cherries are in season and if so which supermarket have you seen that sells them?

The first cherries are just starting to come in now, but you would do better to wait a couple of months for the sweeter - and cheaper - varieties that are around from June/July like White Heart or Black Heart and buy British!

If you are near Kent go along to the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale and they have taster courses on using the fresh crop : http://www.brogdale.org/html/events_and_courses.html and cherry info from bbc here mighht be of interest: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/food_matters/cherries.shtml

sorry I don't live near Kent! But thanks for your reply!

Later in Summer you will see them at almost any supermarket.

Tesco, Sains., Morrisons and Somerfield all had them last year. Fruit stall at markets tend to sell them riper than the supermarkets though.

Kaz.

Some of the best cherries are from Marks and Spencer, especially the variety Rainer!
