I don't think so, by and large the quality is far better and much cheaper! I think a lot of their stuff is from Germany, and the Germans will not eat any old rubbish! I love both stores cooked meats, cheeses and you can sometimes get good frozen meat too. And most of the wine is to die for!

where as i cannot eat anything from aldi,as i think it is low class food?? perhaps thats the snob in me, but i much prefer the tesco,asda and so forth brands?

ps.......i am just a normal working bloke and no way a snob?

A lot of it comes from Germany .Lidl is one of the big retailers there.
We shop there quite a lot as Mr.S. can get all his German type stuff...pumpernickel bread ,bratwurst and so on.
A lot of the tinned stuff is generic ..it comes from Holland and tinned tomatoes from Italy. Having just looked at few tins in the pantry several of them say "Produced in the EU for Lidl".
They have really good fruit and veg and it's half the price of other supermarkets .
Their washing powder and dishwasher tablets are as good if not better than named brands.I buy the dog food there.The apple juice and orange juice is lovely and they do lovely yoghurts for 29p .Milbona ..made in Bavaria and far superior to that old M�ller stuff.
You have to pick and choose like anywhere really.
In Germany they are huge and very popular.

P.S.
My brother is the biggest food snob walking ! Nothing would get him out of Waitrose or Marks and Sparks.
I took him round Lidls and he is always in there now!

Well they sell basically what you need .
I have to say I am not keen on Aldi neither here nor in Germany.
OK they haven't got a deli counter or an instore bakery or all these other gimmicks.The toiletries section is nothing special.
But they have a good selection of every day food.
They have run of the mill food unless you are fond of caviar !
Go and have look ..you would be surprised .

I'll shop anywhere, from Marks to Tesco. But I get all my basic fruit and veg from Lidl, twice as much for half the price. makes sense!

Aldi is my first choice for all my shopping. I have enough money to shop anywhere I want and I choose to shop in Aldi. When the recent health scare about colouring in food was published there was not a single Aldi product on the list. The only thing I buy from the regular supermarket is Twinings Earl Grey tea which is my favourite. Last weekend I bought the ALdi lightly dusted sole and it was gorgeous and at �1.79 for 2 pieces it was amazing value. I do buy my meat from a local butcher though.

I buy four-pack tubs of peaches and pineapple in a very distinctive carton sold under the 'Sweet Valley' brand name by Aldi. Our local Co-op has exactly the same thing under the 'Del Monte' label, but at a 60% higher price.

My daughter does a lot lot of Italian cooking,I gave her a couple of tins of Aldi,s Carlini tinned tomatoes, she won`t use any other now. She was paying at least three times as much.

Their fruit juices are 100% fruit and the same price as UK fruit juices with 30% fruit and the rest water amd preservative.
Guess which I buy?

I have to confess we do most of our food shopping at Waitrose, simply because the quality is so consistently good and we've shopped there for donkey's years; BUT orange juice, tinned tomatoes, tomato puree, pasta, much of our cheese and a lot of our alcohol come from Aldi (it's on the way home from Waitrose!). Their fresh fruit & veg is not bad, and certainly very reasonably priced. It's also the only place locally I can get proper German deli produce, agai, cheaper than you would believe possible for the quality. And don't get me started on their household goods, electronics, leisure goods...........Aladdin's cave!

I love the offers too! Lidl have some great stuff..my son went last week when they had motoring stuff on offer.He got loads of car cleaning stuff for half the price they charge at Halfords or anywhere similar.I subscribe to their newsletter so we are off next week to buy a new microwave with built in grill for 30 quid.
I bought an excellent food processor there last year for for the same amount.
I do a bit of drawing and painting as a hobby and their stationery promotions are great for pencils,sketchbooks etc.
I think we"ve got quite a fan club going here !

I love both but Aldi's is closer to me about 2 miles whereas it's 10 or more to Lidl. I love the Aldi's conserve jam - it is the expensive preserve and is about 60p and Morrison's wanted the same style and size for �3 - and they do a gorgeous thick malted brown bread that I have never tasted anything better anywhere

I also use Aldi's offer - my computer monitor is a flat screen from there was just over �100 and most of their electrical products have a 3 year huarantee and if anything goes wrong theynhave an excellent exchange and refund programme unlike Lidl who will not refund in cash for amounts over �15 - they won't even credit your card - it'[s sending cheques out and is a bit of a faffle

Lidl brilliant, veg fantastic and much cheaper and they have some great other food too..........all lovely......95% of it anyway

Aldi's cheeses are just fantastic - they even do sliced Emmental rather than plastic 'cheddar', and their Feta and Mozzarella are second to none. Something gives me the impression that they are Irish or German. I was hesitant about buying meat (I don't eat it) but my husband has tried it and he thinks it's great. I'd rather shop there than, for example, Kwiksave, which, rightly or wrongly always seems a bit seedy. I think it's because they have the (stinking) meat counter at the entrance, which, for those of us that don't eat meat, is very off-putting. Lidl I'm not sure of.
