Most helpful crete ! but it does specifically advise against microwave defrosting on the pack (Lidl South American rump steaks), presumably for texture/quality reasons.

Ages. You'll be lucky if it's fully thawed by dinner time. And anyway, I want steak NOW.
If you only put in in fridge this morning then you wont be eating it tonight.
whiffey why does it have to be in the fridge? Leave it on your kitchen table 4 or 5 hours should do it.
yes kev you got in there just before me good idea
Those Lidl steaks are delicous .I thaw them out in the fridge for 24 hours and then leave them out for an hour or so before cooking so they come to room temperature.
If you look on the packet they advise you to thaw slowly in the fridge.
Forward planning !
whiffey is that steak defrosted yet ?

I took the steak out of the fridge (who cares) at about 3pm. It was indeed still solid. I put it in a dish at room temperature, and am marinading it in some decent South African merlot, with loads of added hot spices. New potatoes and a huge brocolli are waiting on the grid for the green light. Tomatoes from the conservatory, loads of Budweiser, nice evening in prospect.

Thanks for the responses.

The steak was awful. Despite frying in olive oil for 1/2 hour it was tough and leathery, and unfortunately I have one more left.
