What are the strangest recipes you've ever come across and have you tried them? I once made baked eggs in tomatoes..- whole hollowed out tomatoes with an egg cracked inside, (a little mustard first )and cream and chives on top. It was at a dinner party I hosted, and I followed this starter with 'oriental hot and sour fish.' This culinary evening has often been remembered by my guests, and not in an entirely fond way.

1 tin tuna
1 tub cottage cheese
half an onion chopped
1 egg
2oz fresh white breadcrumbs
salt and pepper
mix everything together, bake in a hot oven for 20-30 mins until firm to touch and golden, you can eat this hot but I prefer it cold

yep these both sound pretty weird - morichia NO ! sounds like the worst thing in the world - did you invent this or find this?

Hi Luckyeight, I guess I kind of invented the Blue Cheese and Jam thing ... I have to eat Nasty Gluten free bread, so I'm always looking for something to make it slightly nicer. On that particular day I'd melted some lovely creamy blue cheese on the bread, then thought it looked a bit dry ... and sat on top of the bread bin was a jar of Plum Jam. I spread a tiny bit on to taste and it was GORGEOUS! I persuaded my Hubbie to try and he agreed, weird but lovely!
(I also make an amazing Chicken in Cheese 'n Chilli sauce, but I'm not sure if that's weird or not cos I've been making it too long now)
I like the sound of Ermintrude's recipe - I think that might be on the Menu next week.
I hope that there are some other strange recipes/mixtures out there ...

Wow mort - impressed that u gonna try the baked eggs! On the subject of strange toast toppings, when my mother was at university, one of her friends invented:
brown toast, lots of butter, then Marmite, then cottage cheese....
She introduced it to me and it is really good :)
I still don't know if I could brave the blue cheese plum jam thing - but then it's maybe kinda like brie and grapes or cranberries I guess?

Oh my Goodness! you guys have just reminded me of something my Dad served up when I was a small child! My Mum was poorly and for Dinner we ended up with ..... Wait for it .....
Deep Fried Wheetabix (?sp) ARGHGHGHGHGH
and sometimes, we'd be given Wheetabix spread with Butter & sprinkled with Suger for brekkie.
Have to say to b13thy, I don't think the Soup and Pancakes will be on our Menu, but I am looking forward to trying Tomato's with Eggs! Will let u know how it goes.

..hey you guys I am proud of you for trying out my tuna recipe!....we have eaten it for over 20 years now.... lived on it as a student, and it's a great stand by dish, you can add bits and bobs to it to make it more interesting, sweetcorn, diced peppers etc. it's also nice on toast..... I also eat it with salad, it's nice with baked beans too!.....

Yes, it was disgusting.
One of the wierdest - yet simplest - a whole calf's head split down the middle and barbecued. Then just pass the head round and use your own teaspoon to scoop out the brains.
I swear this happened to me at a farmer's barbecue in italy!
I'd have gladly eaten the omelette that day!

This is a recipe that I found in a Sunday supplement and I thought it sounded so strange and unlikely that i was obliged to make it. It is one of the most delicious and unusual salads ever & I recommend this recipe to everyone:
When I made it I couldn't get broad beans so just used more peas!
Courgette, broad bean and bacon salad:
200g peas, podded.
200g broad beans, podded.
200g piece streaky bacon, diced.
Half clove garlic, chopped.
1 sprig rosemary.
Olive oil.
10 baby courgettes, cut at an angle into 1cm pieces.
1 handful fresh mint leaves.
Blanch the peas and beans, refresh and set aside (for preference, also remove the papery skins from the beans). Saute the bacon, garlic and rosemary in a little oil, remove from the pan with a slotted spoon, then saute the courgettes. Mix the bacon, courgettes, peas, beans and mint. Season and dress with a simple red-wine vinaigrette.
