I heard years ago that nuts contain lots of protein, but the human body is incapable of taking it in in this form. How true is that? Are nuts only a source of roughage, and not protein, to the human being?

No, nuts do provide protein, and much of it is absorbable by humans. they also have a lot of oil in them.
