Leave to mature for about 3 months, ie from autumn to Christmas, then strain and bottle back into original vodka bottle. Use cheapest vodka available. You will end up with more than a litre of new vodka so have another bottle handy. Makes a sweetish alcoholic drink like a thinnish liqueur, so you can change recipe next time to suit your tastes.
My b-in-law does same with raspberries, and makes sloe gin in the same way with same quantities of ingredients, so have a go and experiment. You may need to prick the damsons to release the juice.

Save time in pricking the skins of sloes or damsons or whatever by mimicing the first frosts (which, according to country lore is the time to pick your hedgerow fruits) Stick your sloes, damsons or whatever in the freezer, and your gin, vodka or whatever in the coldest part of the fridge (or even in the freezer if you want). When you are ready to make the stuff, put the frozen fruit, the very cold spirit in the jar/bottle/container and watch the berry skins crack like ice cubes do when added to a cold drink. You can then add the sugar and finish the recipe as normal. Works every time for me - I'm famous for my fruit liquors round here.! Using this method means you can pick sloes etc as soon as you see them, thus preventing a usurper who waits for the first frosts from stealing from your favourite patch!
